IT HAS BECOME CLEAR TO ME THAT I AM MORE OF A STORY TELLER THAN I AM A WRITER. PEOPLE SEEM TO LOVE HEARING ME TELL STORIES. ( or maybe they are just polite) I THINK THE ONE REASON PEOPLE LISTEN TO ME AND READ MY BLOG IS BECAUSE I STICK TO THE TRUTH AND I LIKE TO ENTERTAIN MY FRIENDS. TURNING MY STORIES INTO WRITTEN WORDS HAS BEEN A CHALLENGE. MAYBE IF I HAD A BETTER GRASP OF GRAMMAR AND SPELLING IT MIGHT BE EASIER. SO HERE IS A STORY.
FLASHBACK TO EARLY 70’s when working at the Beverly Hills Hotel for Carey Limousine Service. As I said before I met many famous people and I also met many interesting people that were not famous. One guy stands out in my mind. His name was Tony Mandich. He was a limousine driver that would stop in at the Carey Limo office when he was bringing someone to the BHH. He and I got to know each other and over time, he told me about how he escaped from behind the Iron curtain with a friend by converting a small automobile into a go-cart and juiced up the motor and ran under the border barriers and stops lying flat in the contraption at 3:00 am without incident. What balls ! After an incredible life journey he ended up working at Atlantic records for Richard Erdogan. Richard Erdogan was the “BIG KAHUNA” of Atlantic Records. I thought that Tony was only a chauffeur but it turned out he was already an executive but some entertainment people only wanted Tony. I liked the guy. It was easy to understand why famous entertainers wanted Tony. He was a good man. So I’m working late one night and Tony shows up and comes in and sits down. I knew Richard Erdogan was at the hotel because the chauffeurs were talking about it. Richard Erdogan was a legend in the business. (so I was told). So I ask Tony who he was driving that night ? He tells me he was driving Mick Jagger to see Richard Erdogan. I said WOW !! Tony asked me if I would like to meet Mick Jagger ? What? are you kidding me ? Let’s face it, Mick Jagger is an ICON and a legend in his own time and so are all the ROLLING STONES. What was I going to do, SAY NO ? I was so excited ! Tony said he would introduce me when Mick was coming down the elevator to get in the Limo in the underground parking where I worked. So Tony comes and gets me about 2 hours later and I get down to the elevator and Tony has the Limo waiting, door open and Tony and I are standing there………. and the elevator door opens… and it is….. MICK JAGGER !! Well Mick was Rolling Stoned as he Jaggered out of the eleavator and looked me right in my eyes as he tried to focus on me, then looked at Tony. Then Mick Jaggered about 10 feet to the open Limo and flopped on the back seat on his back and closed his eyes. So Tony looks at me and we both smile at each other and Tony says, I’m sorry Marc, I don’t think tonight is a good night to meet him ! So we both laughed, and away they went !! SO THAT’S IT ! THAT WAS MY BIG INTRODUCTION TO……………. MICK JAGGER ! So the one time I was excited to meet somebody, all I came away with was this story !! BUT IT IS A … ROLLING STONED STORY !!!
